I find it interesting that today more people choose to work with the same insurance agent or financial planner throughout their life, but not with a mortgage broker.  A mortgage broker will be involved with the biggest asset and debt of your life, but remains a perfect stranger to you until their services are required.  Most people who have questions about insurance coverage or financial planning strategies will work with the same people, people they have developed relationships with for years and years.  As mortgage brokers, we are trying to build our client bases in a way that will mirror these developed relationships; then when you have mortgage-related issues you will have a trusted advisor at your side forever.  Most insurance agents will be the agent to the family and as members of the family mature their extended families will become clients as well.  Eventually, these professionals will become friends of the family, to the point where trust is so ingrained that you would never want to work with anyone else.  Most mortgage brokers, including ourselves, want to create a relationship strong enough to warrant the same level of trust that you have for these other service providers.

It is our responsibility to structure a solid relationship with you, and we intend to break the barriers of mistrust that have plagued our industry over the years.  Hopefully, at the time when you made that first decision to work with a mortgage broker you were able to find someone who had the background and knowledge sufficient enough to provide you with the service you expected.  I will often inform people to ask questions concerning their prospective mortgage broker’s background and to conduct a simple interview process, as a method for finding out additional details about the person with which you work.  Once you have selected the mortgage broker of your choice it is time to put them to the test.  Do a little research on your own and compare it to what they share with you. If you have any reason to question or doubt the sincerity of their intentions it is wise to simply move on. You are attempting to establish a relationship with the right person from the inception.  Optimistically, the mortgage broker you have selected will do a competent job of remaining in constant contact with you, so that you are never unsure of how to contact them.
